Death: Its Origin and Definition Origins Define Death While in his high estate and perfect environment (that disproves the secular worldview notion that our environment is the culprit) God tested first man. God told Adam his everlasting life would be taken away if he disobeyed one command and ate the forbidden fruit. ...For in the day that you eat of it, you shall surely die! (Gen. 2:17)
Adam distrusted God's plain Words, disobeyed God's clear command and instantly changed the whole cosmos.
This monumental failure brought DEATH.
Horrendous Consequences of Sin
The loss was much greater than one man's physical death. "The Fall" (a non-Biblical term) grossly understates mans loss. The original sin equivalent to treason against God took man's everlasting life, his perfect environment, his divine fellowship and plunged all mankind and all the world into a death-slide. The "curse" contained many negative changes all of them physical. The only suitable term is death nothing less. All creation now "groans" and is dying. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. (Rom 8:22)
Man Died
Adam sinned, his eternal direction changed and he immediately began some new experiences. Physical pain, suffering, weariness, setbacks, sickness and aging were forerunners to Adams expiration 930 years later. Adams physical life didnt end immediately; (removing mankind from the earth) just as ours doesnt when we sin. God has purposes for us, even after our death sentence has been pronounced.
That countdown has been passed on to everyone since. Sin is hereditaryit passes to all men by birth. For by one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death passed to all men, because all sinned. (Rom. 5:12) Death reigned from Adam to Moses.... (Rom. 5:14)
Adam Died the Day He Ate
To harmonize with evolution some like to point out that Adam didnt die within 24-hours of his sin, and since Gods warning specifically says he would die "in the day that you eat of it" they are quick to conclude that creation days must be interpreted as long ages. "This day at least spanned Adams 930-year life."
But this leap over reason ignores the long list of textual confirmations for 24-hour creation days. The Bible clearly explains that Adam did die the instant he disobeyed. His eternal life was cut off. From that moment he began to experience deterioration, decay and downward changes. His last breath, taken 930 years later, was only one of many manifestations of the death he chose.
Death: the Consequence of Sin not a Tool of our Creator. For by one man sin entered into the world, and DEATH by SIN, and so death passed to all men. Rom. 5:12
Death and Sin Are Inseparable
From their simultaneous origin until their simultaneous end, death and sin are inextricably joined in the Biblical worldview, and in the Gospel. And death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. (Rev 20:14) The Biblical principle is clear. The soul that sinneth, it shall die. (Ezek. 18:4)
Death is an Enemy Our Uncreator The Bible, common sense, and all reality tells us that death is man's great enemy as are all the harms that precede it. Death was not a tool in the hand of an all-good Creator who finished and then evaluated all His work as "very good." After sin brought death our righteous Judge used death to punish sin.
God Himself calls death an "enemy." For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, after that those who are Christs at His coming, then comes the end, when He delivers up the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death.
(1 Cor 15:21-26). Death is neither a natural end of life nor a tool of creation as the secular worldview claims. Death counters God's creative work. God could use death only for judgment, not for creation. Gods intention in the flood was "to destroy them" (Gen. 6:13). Gods actions to create and to destroy are clearly opposite and achieve opposite results.
Death is a Temporary Intruder Death is an intruder that has conquered every man. Death was conquered by Christ through His resurrection. Death is temporal and physical "sleep" that will be abolished just before the physical domain of reality ends. Every man will be resurrected, either to eternal life or eternal death —called the "second death" that is permanent separation from God.
Death Will Be Conquered
All of the consequences of sin that are wrapped in the term 'death' will be overcome. Believers will be saved Body, Soul and Spirit. The curse on man and animals and even the ground will be removed and all creation will be saved. For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the anxious longing of the creation waits eagerly for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. (Rom 8:18-22).
Why Loving God Permitted Death
Loving God allowed death so man could escape the horrible depths of an everlasting life in sin and could be resurrected to his original design. God shortened mans life to 900 years then to 120 and later to 70 years to limit the depth of sin man could reach. Physical death is a temporary "sleep" that ends with resurrection everyone will live again forever with or without God. Through resurrection I can regain His original perfect design.
