LIFE: Two Definitions at War

The Christian Worldview of Life
The Secular Worldview of Life

In the Biblical Worldview, the origin, end and nature of LIFE and DEATH are critical truths. Living things are irrefutable proof that their Cause is LIVING—a fact contradicted by the secular worldview.
Death, accompanied by pain, suffering and all that harms man, is our enemy —as the Bible states. But the secular worldview states that death and pain have existed as long as has life and are normal and natural creating processes. But in the Biblical worldview death and pain are negative, hurtful, destructive forces —intruders in the all-good Creator's world.

Why, among all the good that God made, does bad also exist? If the secular worldview explains all reality, and if there is an all good and sovereign God, (a mixture that satisfies many people) then why has God made or at least allowed death and suffering? The Biblical Worldview also answers this perversion that troubles the many.

God's Big Plan

Before God laid "the foundations of the earth" He planned to create creatures like Himself for His own fellowship in His eternal domain. To be suitable man had to be like Him, with power to choose or reject God's fellowship. Their will was to be tested to reveal those who would choose Him. So God created the physical domain of reality as the temporal home for God's new friend where man could be tested for a brief period. It had to be a real test, with the real possibility of failure. Death was to be the very real consequence of failure.

There also had to be a way for men to be restored to God's original created ideal condition. The plan required a covenant between God and His Son that the Son would become the Redeemer of men. This "Lamb slain before the foundations of the earth" would experience human death and be resurrected to pay man's sin-debt and gain victory over man's death condition. In the Biblical Worldview death begins after creation is complete and perfect and death exists until all physical reality passes away at the end.

Then comes the end, when He delivers up the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death. (1 Cor 15:24-26).

How Life Began

A Living Creator
The compelling proof for a living Creator is the existence of life. God created life with impact. Suddenly the air, the sea and the land teamed with every life-kind that has ever existed and immediately able to reproduce —only after its own kind.

Then the LORD God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being. (Gen 2:7)
After the Creator used dust to make man's body He performed an additional step to bring human life. God's breath is often used to refer to the Holy Spirit. Breathing life into man indicates that life human life is a spiritual function. When life leaves a man his spirit and soul depart the body. We are not told how animal life began, but in animals it remains obvious that DNA is not life there either.

Life is only Physical
In the secular worldview life is just chemistry —rising slime. The evolution of DNA from poison slime and electric shock is supposed to explain the origin of life. (Despite plain evidence that DNA is not life: Caskets are full of DNA but void of life.

Human life is a spiritual function —invisible to naturalism. Evolution’s parade of self-developing monkeys is anti-God speculation. The "missing link" search is folly. Similarities across gaps do not mean ancestry they mean a common Designer. Cavemen from the past show that life was rough —probably after the global flood had left a cruel environment.

Death Began with Life
In the secular worldview death began when life began —all chemical processes end naturally. Death is just the expiry of the DNA chemical process. So from the earliest simplest life to the present complex life the death struggle has remained and explains why we die. New life kinds form because weaker life forms die and become extinct. Death and extinction are an essential creative force in the secular explanation of biological evolution. No other origin or reason for death is offered by evolution.

Living things died for long ages before first man appeared.
The long ages of evolutionary suffering and death before first man contradict the Biblical cause and reason for death. If death occurred before first man then it is not a consequence of sin. Evolution completely disassociates death from sin. Death is not the penalty for sin but a force creating new life kinds

Survival of the fittest: A Scientific Law of Creation?
Reality contradicts the idea that the fittest survive in struggle. If being fittest is the determinant, then why has love survived at all? The love principle —placing the needs of others ahead of our own —has not only survived, it flourishes. Competing brute fitness is not the ruling and resolving force that evolution claims. In fact it’s not even among the leading factors in survival. The best it can claim is temporary gain; those who live by the sword tend to die by the sword. Logic tells us that at every level the fittest in turn would be eliminated by something fitter and ultimately would leave one lonely survivor. This is not a way of life and survival but of death and extinction.
Death struggles are not a natural process but a consequence of sin.

What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. (James 4:1,2)

DNA is not Life
It is neither scientific nor logical to believe that life came from non-life although the secular worldview hangs on that premise. The most proved law of science —a cause is always greater than what it produces —dictates that complex things cannot come from simple things. To suppress this intransigent law evolutionists distract us with a story of DNA evolving from poison slime aided by deadly electric shock. But even if this explanation were feasible, which it is not, the origin of DNA is NOT the origin of life. DNA is no more life than is water. Although both are found in living things they do not explain life. Life leaves and DNA, water and all the other chemicals remain. Caskets are full of DNA and void of life. DNA is present even in long-dead fossils. This popular red-herring should warn us that natural processes will never explain life.

MAN: The notion of primitive, self-advancing man contradicts the Biblical definition of man. It causes arrogance and contradicts the many Biblical principles that emphasize man's total dependence on God.
