What God Cannot Do God is a living person with infinite Power, Nature, and Attributes. He is Eternal, Holy, and Good. Only a crude understanding of an almighty God believes that He can do anything. God's Holiness and perfection require self-imposed limits and consistency. God cannot sin.
God Cannot Lie
God is completely trustworthy and He demands to be trusted. He punishes those who don't believe Him with eternal death and separation from Himself. How could a righteous God demand faith in Him and be untrustworthy? He can't do that! God cannot mislead those who simply trust His words. While naive believers may not understand all that God says (none of us do) He never misleads those who trust Him first and understand later. His words are sufficient meaning that they do not contain all truth, but they always contain enough truth to answer those who believe His words alone even in the face of apparently contradicting evidence. God Cannot Act Inconsistently with His Nature
In twisting the Biblical creation record to harmonize with fallen man's most recent "laws," rebels will claim that "God can do anything and therefore He could have used long ages of evolution to achieve His creation work." That unfortunate overstatement only makes room for distortions of God's work and nature that carry a heavy price. We can negotiate away God's power in the heat of a science debate that we badly need later in a valley of life. My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. (Ps 121:2). |
